One of the highlights of the East Sussex summer period is the annual airshow at Eastbourne, which this year opens on Thursday 16th August and ends on Sunday 19th. It is a spectacular event with thousands of visitors every year congregating on the seafront to witness a variety of aircraft from vintage to modern, performing highly-skilled stunts. The main attraction is, of course, the display by the Red Arrows, the global superstars of air-acrobatics. There are also amazing displays by World War 2 aircraft, such as Spitfires or Hurricanes, parachutists, helicopters and not to mention stunning acts of wing walking on light propellor vintage aircraft.
Along the seafront, there are so many attractions to suit every palette, with the opportunity to test your skills in flight simulators, or to chat with aircraft professionals from all fields, whether pilots, mechanics or ground staff. The seafront is lined with many stalls, selling food and drink, clothing, souvenirs and numerous fun and engaging activities to suit all ages with even fairground attractions such as a large ferris wheel. Naturally the airshow is enhanced by good weather and clear skies, and as if by magic, airshow weekend very rarely gets dampened with rain and gloomy skies.
Beechwood B&B is the perfect base from which to explore. It’s close enough to get to the airshow within 30 minutes, and is far away enough not to be overwhelmed by the crowds of people once the displays have ended for the day. We are 5 star luxury in every way and the ideal setting to unwind after the exertions the airshow places upon you. We also hear and see many of the aircraft passing overhead both on their way to and returning from Eastbourne. Oh yes, we all love Airbourne and the excitement it generates in East Sussex.
